Licensed Christian Counseling
What Is Licensed Counseling?
Licensed counseling is professional mental healthcare provided by trained and state-licensed clinicians.
Licensed Professional Counseling (LPC)
LPCs are licensed mental health professionals trained to assess and treat a variety of emotional, behavioral, and relational concerns. They may work with individuals, couples, and families experiencing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress, and relationship difficulties.
Evidence-Based Therapy
Our licensed counselors utilize evidence-based therapeutic approaches—methods that have been researched and shown to be helpful for particular mental health and relational concerns. Depending on your needs and your counselor’s training, therapy may incorporate approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed approaches, EMDR, mindfulness-based interventions, or other clinically appropriate methods.
Where Faith and Clinical Counseling Meet
For Christians, mental health and faith do not have to be separate parts of life. At Grace Place, our licensed counselors understand the importance of faith and can integrate Christian beliefs and practices into counseling when desired by the client and appropriate to the counseling relationship. Faith integration may include prayer, Scripture, spiritual disciplines, Christian perspectives on identity and purpose, forgiveness, suffering, relationships, and hope. Your counselor can work with you to determine what level of faith integration is helpful and appropriate for your counseling goals. At the same time, licensed counseling is distinct from biblical counseling. Our licensed clinicians provide professional mental healthcare within the scope of their education, training, and state licensure. Scripture can inform the way we understand people, suffering, relationships, hope, and healing, while evidence-based clinical care provides valuable tools for addressing mental and emotional health.
Individual Counseling
Individual counseling provides a private and supportive environment to work through personal struggles and develop healthier ways of thinking, feeling, and responding.
Our counselors work with individuals experiencing concerns such as:
Anxiety and excessive worry
Depression and low mood
Trauma and difficult life experiences
Grief and loss
Stress and burnout
Life transitions
Self-esteem and identity concerns
Emotional regulation
Relationship difficulties
Other mental health concerns
Your counselor will work with you to understand what you are experiencing, identify goals for therapy, and develop a treatment approach appropriate for your needs.
Couples Counseling
Relationships can be deeply meaningful, but they can also become difficult and painful. Couples counseling provides a structured environment where couples can work toward greater understanding, healthier communication, and stronger relationships.
Counseling may address:
Communication problems
Conflict and recurring arguments
Emotional disconnection
Trust and forgiveness
Intimacy concerns
Major life transitions
Parenting disagreements
Patterns that continue to create conflict
Our counselors can help couples understand the patterns within their relationship and develop healthier ways of relating to one another.
Family Counseling
Family counseling recognizes that struggles within a family rarely affect only one person. Families can benefit from having a trained professional help them understand relational patterns, improve communication, and navigate difficult circumstances together.
Family counseling may be helpful for families experiencing conflict, parenting challenges, major transitions, behavioral concerns, grief, or other relational difficulties.
Anxiety
Anxiety can affect your thoughts, emotions, relationships, sleep, work, and everyday life. Counseling can help you understand the sources and patterns of anxiety and develop healthier ways to respond.
Our counselors can help you work through excessive worry, fear, panic, stress, overthinking, and other anxiety-related concerns using clinically appropriate therapeutic approaches.
Depression
Depression can involve much more than simply feeling sad. It can affect motivation, relationships, sleep, concentration, energy, and your ability to experience joy.
Licensed counseling can provide a place to explore the factors contributing to depression, develop practical coping strategies, challenge unhealthy patterns of thinking, and work toward meaningful change.
Trauma & EMDR
Traumatic experiences can have lasting effects on how a person thinks, feels, relates to others, and experiences the world. Trauma-informed counseling seeks to provide a safe and supportive environment where individuals can process difficult experiences at an appropriate pace.
Depending on the counselor and your needs, treatment may incorporate specialized trauma therapies, including approaches such as EMDR.
