How Grace Place Counseling Center Began

Every ministry begins with a need.

For Grace Place Counseling Center, that need was the brokenness we see all around us. Marriages struggle. Families hurt. People battle addiction, depression, anxiety, grief, and loneliness. Others are simply searching for wisdom and direction as they seek to grow in their relationship with Christ.

For years, pastors in our community have walked alongside people experiencing these struggles. They would often partner with people who had experience in counseling and care, helping those who were hurting find hope, wisdom, and practical support.

Over time, several people began to see an opportunity: What if there were a place where people could receive quality counseling while also being pointed toward Christ and the hope of the gospel?

That question became the beginning of Grace Place Counseling Center.

A Vision for an Empty Space

Northwest Baptist Church had a portion of its building that had previously been used as a counseling center. The idea began to emerge that perhaps it could once again become a place where hurting people could find help.

The vision was simple: take that space and turn it into a place where people could receive compassionate care while being pointed to Christ and the healing found in the gospel.

But having a vision and making that vision a reality are two very different things.

Then someone stepped forward.

An anonymous donor gave generously to begin the renovations. That gift provided the starting point for transforming an empty space into a place designed to serve people in our community.

And then something incredible happened.

The volunteers came.

When People Started Giving

What happened next could only be described as a community coming together.

People donated money to purchase supplies. Others gave their time, energy, and skills. Walls were torn down. Carpet was removed. Doors and electrical work were installed. People picked up tools and got to work.

Someone even used their creative talents to design the logo for what would eventually become Grace Place Counseling Center.

Piece by piece, the space began to change.

While renovations were taking place, a small group of people began meeting regularly to pray, dream, and brainstorm about what this counseling center could become. For months, this team gave their time, experience, resources, and prayers to help turn an idea into a real organization.

They wrestled with questions about what services should be offered, how the center could serve the community, how counseling and Biblical care could work together, and what it would look like to create a place where people could experience both professional care and the hope of Christ.

Eventually, the team came together around a name:

Grace Place Counseling Center.

The name reflects what we hope people experience when they walk through our doors—a place where grace is extended, people are cared for, and Christ is honored.

Built by Generosity

One of the most remarkable parts of the Grace Place story is that virtually every part of this counseling center has been made possible through the generosity of others.

The renovations were supported by donations.

Supplies were donated.

Time and labor were donated.

The logo was created by someone who freely gave their talents.

Furniture was donated.

The sign was donated.

Even the resources needed to establish the coordinator position were provided by people who believed in the vision and wanted to see it become a reality.

Grace Place exists because people saw an opportunity to invest in something bigger than themselves.

We are deeply grateful for every person who has prayed, given, worked, designed, built, encouraged, or simply believed that this ministry was worth pursuing.

Their generosity has allowed us to create more than a renovated room.

They helped create a place where hurting people can find help and hope.

A New Counseling Center with an Old Mission

Grace Place Counseling Center is new, but the need it exists to address is not.

People have always experienced brokenness. They have always needed someone to walk alongside them. They have always needed wisdom, compassion, truth, and hope.

Our goal is to provide Christ-centered, compassionate, and clinically sound care to people in Oklahoma City and the surrounding community.

We believe counseling can be an important part of caring for the whole person. Whether someone is struggling in a marriage, walking through grief, facing anxiety or depression, battling addiction, navigating a difficult season of life, or simply seeking to grow, we want Grace Place to be a place where they can be met with compassion and care.

Most importantly, we want people to know that their story does not end with their brokenness.

There is a Savior who invites us to draw near.

As we look at everything that has happened to bring Grace Place Counseling Center from an idea to a reality, we are reminded of the words of Psalm 127:1:

“Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.”

We know that Grace Place is ultimately not the result of one person’s work. It is the result of many people faithfully giving what God has given them—and we believe God is the one who has brought it all together.

The doors are open. The work has begun.

And while Grace Place Counseling Center is still new, we believe God will continue to provide, continue to lead, and continue to bring healing to people through this place.

We are excited to see what He does next.
